Canterbury renovation receives bumper crop of awards
Off the back of Canterbury’s multimillion-dollar renovation last year, the Club was recently awarded several building awards for its recent redevelopment.
In conjunction with MPA Projects, Canterbury received an award in the Hospitality Building – Refurbishment category at the prestigious 2019 Master Builders Association (MBA) Excellence in Construction Awards for their work on the interior fit out of Canterbury’s first floor.
Some of the new features that the renovations of the first floor introduced included the new cocktail bar – The Atrium Bar, a completely revamped back of house staff area, and a new six-level lift. The finished space incorporates details like a custom joinery dome ceiling with crystal balls, standalone circular floor, cocktail bar fully wrapped in stone with a timber slat symmetrical ceiling and a timber ceiling over the alfresco area. There were plenty of other showcase standout features like the infinity entry wall wrapped in handmade tiles, custom water features with copper structures with integrated waterspouts in the new bathrooms and the amenities which have full-height stone walls.
The joinery used in the renovations, provided by Ryde Joinery, picked up a further two awards at the Australian Shop & Office Fitting Industry Association 2018-2019 Interior Fitout Awards – the highly coveted National Interior Fitout of the Year Award for the upstairs renovation and also the NSW Interior Fitout of Year Award for the work done on The Bistro.
The lighting features in The Bistro, provided by Sydney company FPOV, also won an Award of Commendation at the NSW IES Lighting Awards held in early November.
“It’s been an amazing award season for Canterbury this year – congratulations to everyone involved and thank you for your amazing work and dedication!” said Greg Pickering, CEO of Canterbury League Club.
