Canterbury takes out Movember trophy

Last November was truly the month of the ‘Mo’ with  Canterbury raising a total of $12,986 for men’s health during the month of Movember.

This generous amount, which eclipsed the original fundraising goal of $5,000, saw Canterbury top the leadership board for the Highest Fundraising Team in Movember’s Hospitality Industry Challenge. The team also placed #101 in the national fundraising rankings just one spot shy of the Top 100.

For their hard work and dedication to the moustache-growing month, the Canterbury Moustache League was presented with a coveted Movember wooden trophy which CEO Dave Brace accepted on Canterbury’s behalf.

“The amount we have managed to raise this year is an amazing achievement and it was fantastic to see staff embrace Movember wholeheartedly. Everyone really got into the spirit of it – there were some amazing moustaches around the Club, all helping raise awareness for men’s health,” said Brace.

Sixty-two staff members including Brace took on the challenge to grow a moustache in support of raising awareness for men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.

Special mention to COO Jon Brain and Executive Chef Simon McNamara who were both determined to fundraise over $1,000 during the month of Movember – they both surpassed their goals with amazing results, raising $1,700 and $1,560 respectively.

First created by two friends in Melbourne in 2003, Movember has grown from strength to strength to become a global movement raising funds and awareness about men’s prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health problems. Over 832 projects in 21 countries have since received vital funding used to improve the lives of those living with men’s health problems.

As a result of this year’s fundraising efforts, Australia has raised almost $20 million for the Movember Foundation.
