MEET THE TEAM – PAUL AKKARY

Paul is a familiar face to many as he does his daily security rounds at the Club. He has been part of the Canterbury team for 23 years in the Security and Customer Relations Department as a Team Leader.

During Paul’s shift, he ensures that all areas of the Club are secured, and all facilities are used safely. The role also involves assisting in events that may occur whilst he is on his shift.

“The first day I worked at Canterbury was a Saturday night in November 1996. The Club was pumping with music, bars and restaurants were full, and that’s when I knew I wanted to be here for a long time,” said Paul.

“Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with some great personalities – from managers to our cleaners – who all work hard to keep the Club at the top of the hospitality industry. During my time at Canterbury, I have also had the opportunity to be involved with the Bulldogs football team security on special game days and have enjoyed the experience immensely.”

But what Paul really enjoys about his job is talking to all of the patrons who walk through the Club’s doors. Every day on average, over 2,500 patrons visit Canterbury and Paul has the pleasure of greeting these patrons and assisting them.

When Paul isn’t at the Club working, he is spending time with his wife Rose and three sons; Daniel, Jake and Peter.

What you might not know about Paul is that he was a talented rugby league player who now spends his weekends watching his boys play the game he loves. Over the years, Paul played for a variety of teams including Newtown, Souths, Penrith and our very own Bulldogs.
