Junior tennis players fromMoxon Sports Club cleaned up at the recent Canterbury Bankstown Tennis Association (CBTA) Championships which was held at Panania Tennis Courts on 18-19 November 2017.
Students from Kellert Tennis Academy, which is based out of Moxon, had 16 students enter the competition aged 7 to 17. Players from five other tennis centres – Panania Tennis Courts, Smith Park East Hills, Deverall Park Tennis Courts, Roger Bowman Tennis Courts Sefton and Centre Court Tennis Georges Hall – made up the rest of the competition.
“We were able to win the majority of events entered which was a fantastic result and a great achievement for our kids with some entering this as their very first tournament. We are very proud of them!” said John Kellert, who together with his brother Richard Kellert, run Kellert Tennis Academy.
And what type of training does it take to reach the top?
“The children train anywhere from once a week for our younger beginners all the way to guys like Open Men’s winner Matthew Scheers who is on court six days a week. They do a variety of programs that are classed by ability from our more social 1 hr groups after school to 1.5 hr or 2 hr squads which include targeted drills, live hitting drills, match play and also fitness and mental toughness exercises. Most of our top performing students also have private lessons with us,” said John.
