Hungry supporters of Canterbury’s Biggest Morning Tea on May 21 have helped raised over $1,000 to go towards the Cancer Council’s cancer research, prevention and support services.
Throughout the morning, tables were set up in front of C-Life Health Club and covered with an assortment of muffins, cakes, brownies, muesli, yogurt cups, fruit, and baked goods. Food was either made and donated by C-Life and Canterbury staff members or supplied by the Canterbury catering team.
The event, part of Canterbury Community Support program for staff, was a huge success with lots of money raised and barely a crumb left on the food platters.
There was also a staff bake-off competition judged by Canterbury Executive Chef, Simon McNamara. Reminiscent of a tension-filled Masterchef episode, McNamara eventually named a strawberry-frosted pink ribbon cake baked by Canterbury Gaming staff member, Vicki Petsalis, as the winner.
Bake-off entries of decadent caramel slices and tart lemon sunburst tarts also received highly commendable accolades.
“This is the tenth year we’ve run this event and it’s been the best so far. It is a great event to help fundraise for a worthy cause and a fantastic way to get the community together,” said Mariana Tolj, Exercise Physiologist at C-Life and one of the event organisers.
