Variety of equipment for children in need

For many children who are sick, have disabilities or special mobility needs it can be hard to have a normal active childhood.

Variety – the Children’s Charity is one national not-for-profit organisation that is working to change that perception and help children in need live their life to the fullest.

In 2012 over $3 million was delivered to children within NSW through their state branch and about $12 million worth of equipment and funds was granted Australia wide.

Regular supporters of Variety – the Children’s Charity, Canterbury League Club have this year donated another $10,000 to help fund their efforts. The funding was made available through their yearly ClubGrants program.

In the last 12 months there were eight recipients within the Canterbury area and they range from the ages of 3 to 11 years old. The total cost of appeals was over $60,000 and went towards vehicle modifications, a high-powered wheelchair and different types of frames.

“Children should get the opportunity to lead normal lives regardless of their circumstances or conditions. We see the amazing work Variety [the Children’s Charity] does to make this happen and we are proud to support them in changing the lives of many kids,” said Dr George Peponis OAM, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.

Variety acts as a mobile of change through all three of their core programs – Freedom, Future Kids and Caring for Kids. They support children suffering from one or more of, over 133 types of different conditions. The most common conditions assisted are cerebral palsy followed by intellectual disability and visual impairment.
