New insulin pumps help children living with Type 1 Diabetes

Diabetes Alive has received a $30,000 donation from Canterbury League Club to help purchase several insulin pumps for local children living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Insulin pumps are small, computerised devices which provide insulin in a continuous dose to the patient’s bloodstream when they are unable to produce enough insulin naturally. This helps regulates the patient’s blood sugar levels and keeps it in a safe range.

Fifi Hazzouri, CEO of Diabetes Alive, is no stranger to living with the effects of Type 1 Diabetes as she herself has lived with it for the past 38 years. “I began searching for diabetes groups but did not find what I was looking for, so I decided to start my own charity, Diabetes Alive,” said Fifi.

Since then Diabetes Alive have been assisting other Type 1 diabetic patients by raising money for research, insulin pumps and mental health counselling.

“The work that Fifi does to provide insulin pumps to children that would otherwise not be able to afford them is truly life changing for these recipients. We are pleased to be able to provide a donation that will go directly to helping children living with Type 1 Diabetes,” said Peter Winchester, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
