A friendly ear, every Wednesday
Canterbury League Club has welcomed a new weekly welfare service for members and staff, with a Canterbury Earlwood Caring Association Ltd (CECAL) welfare officer on site every Wednesday from 12pm to 5pm.
Paola, CECAL’s welfare officer, is available for a confidential, judgement-free chat with anyone who’d like to talk to someone independent about family, work, cost of living, study and relationships. Sometimes it’s a big issue, and sometimes it’s just a chance to talk things through with a listening ear.
“People can expect listening, care and non-judgement,” said Paola, CECAL’s Welfare Officer. “Often people just need an independent listening ear.”
CECAL CEO Gareth Wyatt said the other purpose of the program was to continually help individuals upskill their quality of life.
“Most people never receive practical education in the skills that can determine their quality of life like emotional regulation, healthy relationships, financial literacy, and nervous system regulation. These are skills rarely taught in schools or supported through existing services, yet their absence drives preventable stress, social isolation, mental health decline, and financial disadvantage across our community,” said Gareth.
Canterbury League Club has provided $28,600 through the ClubGrants program to support the service at the Club for the next 12 months.
“Our members and staff are the heart of this club, and looking after them goes beyond the venue. Having CECAL here every Wednesday means there’s always someone independent to talk to, and that’s something we’re proud to offer,” said Peter Winchester, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
If you’d like a chat, drop in and say hello to Paola any Wednesday between 12pm and 5pm, or you can make a free and confidential appointment by calling 0415 068 258.
