August the month of staff giving

Posted on Tuesday, 27 August 2019

As the weather warms up, Canterbury staff have had a busy month of fundraising activities in support of Children’s Medical Research Institute, RSPCA and Donate Life network.

The month kicked off with staff wearing jeans in support of Jeans for Genes Day and Children’s Medical Research Institute. There was also a “blue” morning tea where staff donated something blue to the table which was covered with blue donuts, blue mini cupcakes, blue jelly and blue chocolate dipped strawberries. The day successfully raised $375.85 in staff donations.

Later that month, the call went out for handy staff bakers to donate cupcakes and baked goods to RSCPA’s Cupcake Day and they didn’t disappoint – 14 dozen cupcakes in delicious flavours like chocolate lava, red velvet surprise with buttercream, vanilla with coconut and pink buttercream, salted caramel frosted cupcakes and even green pandan flavoured ones joined scones and cheese platters.

By the end of the day, all cupcakes had been happily devoured and $500 was raised from staff donations with funds directly helping animals in need receive emergency veterinary care, shelter and support.

To round out the month, on Friday 30th August staff were awash in brightly coloured team jerseys to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation and how it can save lives. Jersey Day was inspired by the story of Nathan Gremmo who tragically died in 2015 but his family chose to donate his organs and give the gift of life to others to honour him.

Thank you to all staff who participated and/or donated to these events!
