Bartega: A New Era of Sophistication for South-West Sydney

A vibrant resurgence of nightlife is on the horizon for South-West Sydney with the highly-anticipated opening of Bartega, an artisanal cocktail bar, set to launch on June 9, 2023.

Bartega seamlessly marries the glamour of a high-end cocktail bar with the warmth of a neighbourhood gem, promising to bring the charm and glamour of Sydney’s CBD and Inner West cocktail bars a little closer to home.

At Bartega, mixology ascends to an art form. Guiding this pursuit is Bartega Bar Manager Tony Rudolph, a seasoned expert who has honed his craft in some of Sydney’s most prestigious establishments, including Peter Gilmore’s Bennelong and most recently, Crown Sydney’s Woodcut. Tony instils his passion for fusion flavours into the Bartega beverage menu, aptly described as “a playful yet refined approach to both classics and bespoke concoctions.” One standout is the Jin Cha, a mesmerising blend of Roku Gin, matcha, Chartreuse Green, yuzu, and honey, served traditionally in a matcha bowl.

Beyond the bar, Bartega’s canapé-style menu strikes a tantalising balance between unique and familiar flavours. The selection features savoury delights such as Sesame Coated Yellowfin Tuna, Oven Baked Brie accompanied by organic honeycomb, crushed pistachio, and poppy seed lavosh, and succulent Pork Belly Bao Buns adorned with Asian herbs, pickled daikon, and chilli caramel.

The venue’s aesthetic, designed by award-winning architects Altis Architecture, masterfully blends unique and locally sourced vintage pieces with a range of styles, textures, and colours. The striking interior showcases a mesmerising marble bar as its centrepiece, augmented by marble low tables, plush lounge settings, gleaming brass finishes, and an expansive al fresco balcony overlooking the League Club’s iconic waterfall feature and lush front gardens.

“The vibrant earthy tones of the furniture were chosen to contrast richly against the solid marble bar countertop whilst the overall decor is a mix of sophisticated burgundy and gold hues, creating an inviting and welcoming atmosphere for our members and guests,” said Greg Pickering, CEO of Canterbury League Club.

“The concept behind Bartega was crystallised thanks to the feedback from members and guests via a club-wide survey and several focus groups that we ran in October last year. Based on the feedback received, we recognised the opportunity to open an upmarket cocktail bar to cater to our local community – since the pandemic, I think people are more inclined to explore closer to home for a relaxing night out with friends.”

Able to host up to 60 guests in an intimate cocktail setting, Bartega is another piece of the puzzle in the League Club’s transformation project, aiming to redefine people’s perception of South-West Sydney. CEO Mr Pickering, elucidates this vision, stating, “Bartega is more than just another cocktail bar out west. It represents a celebration of the local community and heralds a new era of luxury and accessibility in South-West Sydney’s hospitality scene.”
