Become a Max Potential youth coach

Max Potential is putting the call out for members of the public who’d like to become community coaches for this year’s program.

Max Potential is a leadership development program aimed at young adults who are matched with local community coaches. Over the course of 22 weeks and with the help of their coaches, young adults learn skills to maximise their potential by encouraging individual growth and cultivation of a healthy attitude to life. The program culminates with a final community project which addresses local issues researched by young participants and ways they can work to improve it.

Canterbury League Club is a major sponsor of this year’s Max Potential program after donating $25,000 which will be used to train three mentors and cover program costs including the monthly workshop groups.

Volunteer coaches do not need prior coaching or mentoring experience as they will receive full training from professional coaches and complete support from Max Potential staff. In effect, professional coaches will coach volunteer coaches who in turn will coach young adults – a collective effect where every participant learns valuable skills that they can use in their careers and daily lives.

“Being a coach will increase competency in effective goal setting, emotional intelligence, managing peoples’ performances, and building empathic communication techniques,” said Wayne Deeth, CEO of Max Potential.

“Max Potential believes that learning skills is only one part of effective training. The program provides the opportunity for volunteer coaches to participate in two days of intensive coach training, and then practice and continuously improve their coaching skills across 22 weeks of supervised ‘real life’ coaching.”

The Canterbury-Bankstown 2016 program is due to start in the first week of May – interested members of the public can contact Mel Hanger, Max Potential Canterbury-Bankstown Manager, for more information on 0419 515 005.
