Canterbury is a finalist at Clubs & Community Awards
Canterbury League Club has been named a finalist in two categories at this year’s ClubsNSW Clubs & Community Awards – recognising our ongoing commitment to making a meaningful difference locally.
The first nomination in the ‘Health Care’ category is for C-Life Health Club and Canterbury’s partnership with Lakemba Public School Community Centre to deliver a six-week Women’s Fitness and Wellbeing Program supporting 15–20 women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
Developed in response to community feedback highlighting isolation and mental health challenges, the initiative aimed to improve physical wellbeing, confidence, and social connection.
A private upstairs studio at C-Life was transformed into a culturally safe, women-only space delivered by female Personal Trainers, ensuring comfort and inclusivity. Each 1.5-hour weekly session combined 40 minutes of fitness with 20 minutes of life coaching, covering topics such as mental health, heart health, diabetes education, and health literacy. Activities including Pilates, yoga, and cycling were accessible to all fitness levels.
Participants reported increased confidence, stronger friendships, and renewed motivation to prioritise their wellbeing.
In addition, the Club was also nominated in the ‘Fostering Grassroot Sports’ category for the Future Bulldogs program which provides a $100 subsidy to local junior rugby clubs in the Canterbury-Bankstown District for every registered Under-5 to Under-13 player who plays at least five games during the season.
The program has clear aims: increase junior participation, grow Bulldogs pathway players, strengthen representation from the Canterbury-Bankstown area, and build community support for local young athletes.
“We are immensely proud to be recognised by ClubsNSW for the work that we do in our community – thank you for naming us as a finalist! As an industry, clubs have always done amazing work supporting their community and we wish the best of luck to all other nominees,” said Peter Winchester, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
