CEOs raise awareness and funds to help the homeless
Every night there are thousands of people across New South Wales who are sleeping rough on the streets or are in emergency housing because they have nowhere else to go.
Since 2006 St Vincent de Paul Society have been organising their CEO Sleepout and inviting CEOs to spend a night on the streets in an effort to raise awareness and funds to run early intervention and support services for people who are experiencing homelessness, or at risk of homelessness.
Canterbury League Club supported the recent 2017 Vinnies CEO Sleepout with a $2,000 donation to City of Canterbury Bankstown Administrator, Richard Colley, and another $2,000 to National Rugby League’s CEO, Todd Greenberg.
“The sleeping arrangements were meant to be uncomfortable, and they were, but they were nothing compared to what some people really face on a day-to-day basis,” said Mr Colley.
This year 357 CEOs have taken part in the NSW CEO Sleepout and have raised $1,741,648 between them.
“I commend all the CEOs who volunteered to do the CEO Sleepout and braved the cold in their makeshift cardboard tents. Events like this really put the plight of the homeless in perspective, and help build empathy and understanding of the difficulties that people experiencing homelessness go through,” said Dr George Peponis OAM, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
