Children Therapy Toolboxes get a Major Upgrade

Thanks to a $10,000 donation from Canterbury League Club, Koorana Child & Family Services have updated approximately 30 of their therapy toolboxes used for their mobile home-based children’s therapy programs.

“Our practitioners rely on these portable resources every day to support children, and many of the toys and activities had become well-loved, worn or broken over time,” said Rial Kidson, Head of Early Intervention and Allied Health at Koorana Child & Family Services.

“The donation allows us to upgrade our therapy toolboxes with high-quality, durable, and versatile resources that reflect current best practice and ensures our practitioners have engaging, play-based materials that support participation, capacity building, and meaningful, goal-focused therapy across a wide range of settings.”

Each new upgraded therapy kit fits within a small car boot and includes a range of low-cost, multi-purpose tools supporting key developmental areas across disciplines including fine and gross motor tools, sensory regulation items, communication aids, and play-based learning resources.

“For children, this means therapy feels fun, engaging, and motivating, and is experienced as play rather than treatment,” Mr Kidson said. “Overall, sessions become more responsive, collaborative, and child-led.”

“Children learn best in the environments where they live, play, and learn every day. Delivering therapy in homes and community settings allows strategies to be embedded into real routines such as play, mealtimes, transitions, and outings,” said Mr Kidson.

“These resources play such an important role in helping children learn, grow and thrive, and Canterbury is honoured to contribute in a way that directly supports local families in our community,” said Peter Winchester, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
