Coats warming up the homeless this winter

For the fourth consecutive year, Canterbury League Club has donated $2,000 towards Order of Malta’s ‘Coats for the Homeless’ program.

The donation buys 60 of the black, specially-designed, warm shower-proof coats which will be distributed to homeless people across Australia.

This year the Order has extended their services and will be delivering homeless coats and providing important community healthcare to the city’s poor, sick and homeless from a brand new fully-equipped and staffed mobile van. The van will visit different parts of Sydney on a regular basis, including Parramatta and Western Sydney.

“On any given night in Australia 1 in 200 people are homeless and to someone living on the streets, these coats can make a massive difference especially during colder winter months when temperatures can drop to the low single digits,” said Dr George Peponis OAM, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
