Donate used winter clothing to the homeless
For the month of June, Canterbury will be hosting a winter clothing drive for the homeless – the Club invites all Members and staff to donate and give the gift of warmth this season.
The charity drive will be collecting gently used and clean jackets, jumpers, tracksuit pants, socks, beanies, gloves, scarves, hoodies, with a special emphasis on blankets and sleeping bags to help those that are sleeping rough on the streets. Working together with Canterbury’s key community partner, Maronites on Mission, the clothing will be distributed to the homeless at the end of the month during the Club’s monthly food runs at Woolloomooloo and Martin Place in the city.
“While Sydney has been having a particularly warm autumn, the change in the weather from day to night is especially noticeable and temperatures have gotten as low as 12 degrees. Winter time is a rough period for people living on the streets,” said Dave Brace, CEO of Canterbury League Club.
“I’m calling out to all our Members and staff to look inside their closets and donate any winter clothing in good condition that they no longer require to our charity drive. Our partnership with Maronites is the perfect vehicle to distribute winter care packs to the homeless that we see each month. They’ll get food, company and some warm clothes – something I’m sure they’ll appreciate.”
Canterbury Reception will be accepting donations of winter goods for the month of June. If you have any questions, please contact Reception on 9704 7777.
