Discharge times for female patients in Canterbury Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gyneacology Ward are being reduced with the introduction of the Hystero Resection Kit.

The Hystero Resection kit has been purchased with an $11,000 donation from Canterbury League Club.

The kit, although tiny in size contains life changing surgical instruments that allows for safer and more precise removal of fibroid and endometrial polyps.

“The Hospital is very grateful for this generous gift to the people of the area that Canterbury Hospital services. Not only does this kit save time and money, but more importantly is a much safer way to operate on women in our area,” said Dr Louis Izzo, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Cantebrury Hospital.

Prior to the equipment being purchased, a patient had a procedure and stayed in hospital overnight. Now when the surgery is performed, the patient can be discharged the same day.

“We are happy to provide donations to Canterbury hospital so that they can purchase equipment that will benefit the community. Being able to cut hospital stay times will provide patients with a better hospital experience and our surgeons will be able to operate with more precision,” said George Coorey, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
