Empowering Young Men Through Mentorship Program

Canterbury League Club is proud to support the next generation, contributing over $14,000 to The Top Blokes Organisation to help deliver an impactful mentoring program to young men aged 14–17 from Holy Spirit Catholic College Lakemba and Sir Joseph Banks High School.

The structured, six-month mentoring program consisted of weekly sessions led by experienced youth workers, designed to strengthen mental wellbeing, build positive relationships and equip these young men with practical life skills.

“Many of the young men we work with experience challenges such as low confidence, difficulty managing emotions, and limited positive role models,” said Kathryn Roberts, Project Assistant at Top Blokes Foundation. “They might also lack having someone to talk about certain topics with, which is where Top Blokes comes in.”

The program’s goal is redefining what it means to be a ‘top bloke’ through role-modelling, trust and real connection.

“The support from Canterbury League Club has been instrumental in enabling us to deliver consistent, high-quality programs to young men who may otherwise miss out,” said Kathryn.

At the end of the program, participants celebrated their achievements with a graduation held at their school.

“The Graduation Day was a powerful moment of recognition and pride. It celebrated the effort and growth each young man has shown, while also reinforcing a sense of belonging and achievement,” said Kathryn. “It was an opportunity for them to be acknowledged by their peers, school, and community.”

Congratulations to the students at Holy Spirit and Sir Joseph Banks for completing the program! As these young men transition from adolescence into adulthood, we hope they carry forward the lessons they’ve learned – developing greater confidence, the ability to manage emotions, and the skills to build meaningful connections,” said Peter Winchester, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.

“These foundations are critical not only for their engagement at school, but for the kind of men they will become in our community.”
