Recently, early childhood education and intervention organisation Learning Links hosted their professional development day in Canterbury League Club’s new Showroom, attracting 130 Learning Links staff eager to learn and hone their skills.

Participants came from a variety of professional backgrounds “with the majority of attendees being Learning Links’ psychologists, specialist teachers, speech pathologists and early childhood lecturers,” explained Learning Links General Manager of Community and Strategic Partnerships, Don Tilley.

The day was comprised of various workshops and presentations from different specialists in various stages of childhood education with an overall focus on developing newer techniques on how to best support children with learning disabilities in our schools and preschools.

Canterbury supported this full-day event with a grant to help cover costs. Learning Links has been a long-time community partner of the Club, with past grants going towards their Reading for Life and Counting for Life literacy and numeracy programs.

Tilley spoke highly of the support of the club in providing a space that allows the “teams to connect and collaborate to provide the best practice, evidence-based support for the children, families, teachers and professionals [they] support in communities like Canterbury Bankstown.”

“Organisations like Learning Links are crucial in identifying children who have fallen through the gap and then empowering educators with the necessary tools to support them, just like the tools they would have learned at their recent professional development day,” said Peter Winchester, Chairman on Canterbury League Club.
