Local organisations are big winners in Canterbury ClubGRANTS 2016

There were plenty of winners and grinners with 20 local organisations receiving $283,668 worth of community grants from Canterbury League Club through their ClubGRANTS program.

Local organisations use the funding to run specific health and social welfare programs that assist different groups in need within the local community. Some of the projects include a child abuse prevention service, a program to engage autistic children, a mental health awareness expo and a fall prevention program for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) seniors.

Canterbury Hospital received the largest donation with $52,085 going towards the purchase of a drying cabinet to store surgical instruments in a sterile environment. This purpose-built cabinet reduces chemical and water wastage while at the same time increasing the instruments’ availability for use due to its faster processing time.

Some of the other benefitting organisations include Men of League, Horizon Theatre Company, Sir Roden & Lady Cutler Foundation, McCallums Hill Public School, Youth Off The Streets, Canterbury City Community Centre and the Probashi Bangladeshi Women’s Association in Australia Inc.

Canterbury is a passionate supporter of our local community and every year donates over $1 million to various not-for-profit organisations, charities, schools and sporting groups as well as providing scholarships to young people. In the past year, Canterbury has supported over 120 different groups with vital funding and  donations.
“Canterbury is proud to play a part in getting these grassroots projects off the ground – local programs address local issues and cater to groups who will really benefit from learning new skills and have the most to gain by being involved in the community,” said Dr George Peponis OAM, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
