Meet Sandra
If Members or guests are thinking of holding a special celebration event at Canterbury, Sandra is your first port of call as the club’s Event Manager. Exuding warmth and welcome, she goes that extra mile to make sure that the event runs smoothly, and without a hitch. She can organise all sorts of events/functions but she especially loves doing weddings so if you are a future bride or groom, you know who to call!
How long have you been working at Canterbury and what’s your favourite thing about working here?
I have worked at the club for 10 years. Over the years I have developed great friendships with my colleagues which makes work so much more fun; I also conveniently live 5 minutes away!
Tell us about your role as Events Manager. What does a typical day look like?
Mornings are taken up by answering queries, and I also organise site inspections and meet with clients to finalise details for their events. Days are also filled with meetings with our Executive Chef Ryan and F&B supervisors to go over the week’s events – the list is endless!!
What led you into this career path?
I started working in hotels doing front desk and duty manager roles. A position came up for an Events Coordinator at Canterbury and that’s where it all started.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I love to bike ride, which I started during lockdown. I also love to cook for family and friends.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I always enjoy and love doing charity events here at the club. It makes me happy that our club supports these organisations and gives back to the less fortunate.
What’s your favourite dish at Bakehouse Cafe & The Bistro and why?
Bakehouse Cafe – Vegan Chicken Buddha Bowl
Bistro – Stir-Fried Asian Greens with Salmon (YUM!!!)
Which NRL team do you root for?
Dragons all the way BUT by working at the club I have developed an affection for the Bulldogs!
