Older people with pets can count on POOPs

For a lot of socially isolated people over the age of 65 with pets, one of the more disturbing issues is what happens to their beloved animal when they are gone.

Many of them often have no family or other support networks that can look after their pets while they are away – this is where RSPCA Pets of Older Persons program come in.

More commonly known as POOPs, volunteers of this program will provide foster care and boarding services to these animals or find them new homes after their previous owners have passed or are in respite or hospital.

Long-time supporters of the RSPCA and POOPs, the Canterbury Bulldogs Rugby League Club and Canterbury League Club have contributed another $10 000 through their 2013 ClubGRANTS NSW scheme.

Since 2010 this joint partnership has seen more than $40 000 donated which has been used to help fund POOPs as well as other RSPCA programs.

“It is great that we can show our continual support to the RSPCA because they do such important work in our community. Their POOPs program ensure animals are placed with older people who really appreciate the companionship a loyal pet can offer,” said Dr George Peponis OAM.
