Shave event a great success
Amid the shorn locks on the floor and the smell of sausages sizzling enticingly, Canterbury staff have managed to raise $1,475 at their World’s Greatest Shave event.
A dozen Canterbury staff members put their hands up to either shave or colour their locks for the day, with fellow staff showing their support at the sausage sizzle lunchtime event. Canterbury League Club has dollar matched their fundraising efforts, bringing it to a combined total of $2,950 raised for the Leukaemia Foundation. The amount fundraised completely surpassed the original fundraising goal of $2,000.
“It was a bit of good fun in support of charity and my missus had a good laugh when she saw my green mohawk – but she was happy to see it go and she even did the honours shaving the rest off,” said Tiago Cardoso, one of Canterbury’s Team Leaders.
“I went around the corner to the stores on Burwood Road to ask for donations and it was great to see how many people were supportive of the event.”
Local Belmore hairdresser, Jocelyne Harb from Jocelyne’s Hair Studio, kindly donated her time to shave and colour at the event. She said this was the first time she has done the World’s Greatest Shave and that she had such a good time helping out.
“The atmosphere was really festive at the event and it was fantastic to see staff jump in, participate and donate on the day – the World’s Greatest Shave is just one way Canterbury can give back to the community,” said Dave Brace, CEO of Canterbury League Club.
