Staff Christmas party raises $2,050 for drought appeal

At the start of December, 184 staff members and their partners came together for a night of celebration and merriment at the Canterbury Staff Christmas party.

On the night Lavico Italian Ristorante was transformed into a glittering Christmas wonderland and it provided a festive backdrop for the food-laden plates and trays of the grazing table style menu.

As much fun as staff had on the night, the thought of farmers affected by the drought and firefighters combating the bushfires was not far from their minds. All ticket sales from the party, amounting to $2,050, was donated to ClubNSW’s Litres for Land appeal to help deliver tankards of water to communities impacted by the devastating drought.

“It costs several hundred dollars to fill a farmer’s tank with one-month’s supply of water, and in the current drought conditions, is an on-going cost that is too heavy a burden for farmers and communities doing it tough,” said Greg Pickering, CEO of Canterbury League Club.

“I encourage everyone to spare a thought for our farmers and our firefighters; they are in great need of your support in whichever form you can give – a cash donation or gift cards, some kind words, volunteering your time at fundraisers, buying local produce and supporting Aussie farmers – every little bit helps.”
